#ADVENTHYMNS

Bestir Thy power

Bestir Thy power and come, Lord,

To save our sin-laden race,

Reveal Thy bounty and goodness,

Diffuse Thy splendour and grace.

1.                      Life your eyes to the hill

Seek the Saviour until he appears

It is God who comes to our aid

God incarnate our ransom has paid.

2.                      From the Lord comes release,

He makes evil to cease all around,

Night and day He guards us from harm;

We depend on the strength of His arm.

3.                      Come Redeemer and Lord,

Spread Thy peace and concord on the earth.

For Thy second coming we yearn;

From our bondage of sin we will turn.

4.                      To our God let us raise

Our glad voices in praise and esteem,

Render thanks and bless Him in song

To Him glory and honour belong.

Christ come quickly

1.                      Christ come quickly, there’s danger at the door.

Poverty a plenty, hearts gone wild with war.

There’s hunger in the city and famine on the plain.

Chorus: Come, Lord Jesus,

the light is dying,

the night keeps crying,

come, Lord Jesus

2.                      Want demands a hearing in far too many lands,

The sick go unattended, death deals a heavy hand.

The dreams of men are empty, their cup of sorrow full.

3.                      The world awaits in darkness a mighty burst of light,

To set the lame man leaping, to give the blind man sight.

We have the prophet’s promise, we await the Prince of Peace.

4.                      The clouds shall send a Saviour like soft falling

rain, Yet mighty in his power, to free us from our chains.

His shield will be compassion, his weapon liberty.

Christmas, A Saviour Will Come

Christmas, A Saviour Will Come,

Christmas, A Babe In A Stable,

Lying On Straw In A Manger,

Jesus The Lord Will Be Born.

High Up In The Skies Above,

The Voices Of Angels Will Sing;

Glory To God In The Highest,

And Peace To His People On Earth.

1.                      To All The Destitute,

Crying To Him In Starvation.

To All The Destitute,

Hope He Brings And Reassurance.

2.                      Christmas, A Saviour Will Come,

Christmas, A Babe In A Stable,

Lying On Straw In A Manger,

Jesus The Lord Will Be Born.

3.                      High Up In The Skies Above,

The Voices Of Angels Will Sing;

Glory To God In The Highest,

And Peace To His People On Earth.

Come Lord Jesus

1.                      Come Lord Jesus, Come Lord Jesus, Come Lord Jesus,

Come and be born in our hearts.

2.                      Come Emmanuel, Come Emmanuel, Come Emmanuel,

Come and be born in our hearts.

3.                      Come O prince of peace, Come O prince of peace, Come O prince of peace,

Come and be born in our hearts.

4.                      Our hearts are open, Our hearts are open, Our hearts are open,

Come and be born in our hearts.

5.                      Maranatha, Maranatha, Maranatha, Come and be born in our hearts.

Come, Long Expected Jesus

1.       Come, Thou long expected Jesus

Born to set Thy people free;

From our fears and sins release us,

Let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel’s Strength and Consolation,

Hope of all the earth Thou art;

Dear Desire of every nation,

Joy of every longing heart.

2.       Born Thy people to deliver,

Born a child and yet a King,

Born to reign in us forever,

Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.

By Thine own eternal Spirit

Rule in all our hearts alone;

By Thine all sufficient merit,

Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

Comfort, comfort ye my people

1.                      Comfort, comfort ye my people,

Speak ye peace, thus saith our God.

Comfort those who sit in darkness,

Mourning neath their sorrows' load.

Speak ye to Jerusalem

Of the peace that waits for them,

Tell her that her sins I cover,

And her warfare now is over.

2.                      Yes, her sins our God will pardon,

Blotting out each dark misdeed;

All that well deserved his anger

He will no more see nor heed.

She hath suffered many a day,

Now her griefs have passed away;

God will change her pining sadness

Into ever-springing gladness.

3.                      For the herald's voice is crying

In the desert far and near,

Bidding all to true repentance,

Since the kingdom now is here.

Oh, that warning cry obey,

Now prepare for God a way;

Let the valleys rise to meet him,

And the hills bow down to greet him.

4.                      Make ye straight what long was crooked,

Make the rougher places plain;

Let your hearts be true and humble,

As befits His holy reign;

For the glory of the Lord

Now o'er earth is shed abroad,

And all flesh shall see the token

That his Word is never broken.

Grant to us, O Lord

Chorus: Grant to us, O Lord, a heart renewed, Recreate in us your own Spirit Lord.

1.                      Behold the days are coming says the Lord our God

2.                      Behold, the Days Are Coming, says the Lord, our God,

When I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel.

3.                      Deep within their being I will implant my law;

I will write it in their hearts.

4.                      I will be their God,

And they shall be my people.

5.                      And for all their faults I will grant forgiveness.

Nevermore will I remember their sins

Hark, A Thrilling Voice

1.                      Hark! a Thrilling voice is sounding;

"Christ is nigh!" it seems to say;

"Cast away the dreams of darkness,

ye children of the day!"

Startled at the solemn warning,

Let the earth-bound soul arise;

Christ her Sun, all sloth dispelling,

Shines upon the morning skies.

Christ her Sun, all sloth dispelling,

Shines upon the morning skies.

2.                      Lo! the Lamb so long expected,

Comes with pardon down from Heaven;

Let us haste, with tears of sorrow,

One and all to be forgiven.

3.                      So, when next He comes with glory,

Wrapping all the earth in fear,

May He then as our Defender

On the clouds of Heaven appear.

4.                      Honour, glory, virtue, merit,

To the Father and the Son,

With the everlasting Spirit,

While eternal ages run.

Maranatha! Come lord Jesus

1.                      Like a sea without a shore,

love divine is boundless.

Time is now and evermore,

and his love surrounds us.

CHORUS: Maranatha! Maranatha! Maranatha! Come lord Jesus, come!

2.                      So that we could all be free,

He appeared among us,

Blest are those who have not seen,

Yet believe his promise.

3.                      All our visions all our dreams,

Are but ghostly shadows

of the Radiant clarity

waiting at life's close.

4.                      Death, where is your victory?

Death, where is your sting?

Closer than the air we breathe

Is our risen King.

O come, O come, Emmanuel

1.                      O come, O come, Emmanuel,

And ransom captive Israel,

That mourns in lonely exile here

Until the Son of God appear.

CHORUS:   Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

2.                      O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,

Who orders all things mightily;

To us the path of knowledge show,

And teach us in her ways to go.

3.                      O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free

Thine own from Satan’s tyranny;

From depths of hell Thy people save,

And give them victory over the grave.

4.                      O come, Thou day-spring, come and cheer

Our spirits by Thine advent here;

Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,

And death’s dark shadows put to flight.

5.                      O come, Thou Key of David, come,

And open wide our heavenly home;

Make safe the way that leads on high,

And close the path to misery.

6.                      O come, O come, great Lord of might,

Who to Thy tribes on Sinai’s height,

In ancient times once gave the law,

In cloud and majesty and awe.

7.                      O come, Thou Root of Jesse’s tree,

An ensign of Thy people be;

Before Thee rulers silent fall;

All peoples on Thy mercy call.

8.                      O come, Desire of nations, bind

In one the hearts of humankind;

Bid Thou our sad divisions cease,

And be Thyself our King of Peace.

Promised Lord, and Christ is he

1.                      Promised Lord, and Christ is he, May we soon his kingdom see…

Chorus: Come, O Lord, quickly come,

Come in glory, come in glory, come in glory, quickly come.

2.                      Teaching, healing, once was he, may we soon his kingdom see…

3.                      Dead and buried once was he, may we soon his kingdom see…

4.                      Risen from the dead is he, may we soon his kingdom see…

5.                      Soon to come again is he, may we soon his kingdom see…

Rejoice, Israel

Rejoice, Israel: Behold Your Saviour Comes!

1.                      Shepherd Of Israel, Listen to Our Plea,

You Who Lead Your People to The Pasture.

2.                      You, Who Are Seated Above the Cherubim,

Rouse Your Strength and Come To Save Your People.

Stay Awake, The Master Is Coming

1.                      Stay awake, the master is coming,

Be not asleep for all may be lost,

Stand ready the son of man is coming

At a time, we may least expect. [2]

2.                      Prepare the way and clear the bye lanes

For our lord and master yet to come,

With open mind and grateful hearts

Let’s now repent our sinful past.

3.                      Stay awake, the master is coming,

Be not asleep for all may be lost,

Stand ready the son of man is coming

At a time, we may least expect.

4.                      The master’s work proclaims his glory,

He has given sight to the blind,

The deafened ears have been unsealed,

The lame have leapt and sung for joy.

5.                      Stay awake, the master is coming,

Be not asleep for all may be lost,

Stand ready the son of man is coming

At a time, we may least expect.

6.                      ‘Forgive’ he says all those who hurt you,

Love instead as god’s good children should,

Don’t be their judge lest you be judged,

As God alone can judge us all.

7.                      Stay awake, the master is coming,

Be not asleep for all may be lost,

Stand ready the son of man is coming

At a time, we may least expect.

Wake up

Wake up, O people, the Lord is very near!

Wake up, and stand for the Lord.

Wake up, O people, the Lord is very near!

Wake up, and stand for the Lord.

1. Your saving Lord is near. Wake up!

His glory will appear. Wake up!

Your hour of grace is nearer than it ever was.

2.The night of sin has passed. Wake up!

The light is near at last. Wake up!

The day star, Christ, the Son of God, will soon appear.

3. To live in love and peace. Wake up!

To let all quarrels cease. Wake up!

To live that all you do may stand the light of day.

4. That Christ may be your shield. Wake up!

That death to life may yield. Wake up!

That heaven̢۪s gate be opened wide again for you

We long to see thee so

1.                      We long to see Thee so,

To see Thee newly born.

The sands of time run slow,

We long for Christmas morn.

Chorus: O come, O come, O come,

Our Saviour dear to be,

O come, O come, O come,

We have no King but Thee.

2.                      We long to see You so,

To see the angel's glory,

To hear their midnight story

And with the Shepherds go.

3.                      We long to see You so,

To print our kisses sweet,

Upon your little feet

While tears of love shall flow.

4.                      We long to see Thee so!

No other joy can please us,

We want Thee baby Jesus,

The sands of time run slow.

5.                      We long to see Thee so!

The world will not receive Thee,

But we will never leave Thee,

To whom, Lord, could we go?

6.                      We long to see Thee so!

Sweet Christ-Child, do not tarry,

0 bring Him to us, Mary,

Amid the frost and snow.
